Mark it down on your calendar.  You and I lived to see it. Yesterday, February 12, 2010 there was snow on the ground in all 50 states in the United States of America for the first time in recorded history.

This is very significant especially to all those who have been predicting the end of the world due to global warming.  It is more significant to me for the biblical imagery it makes possible for those of us who can look outside and see a fresh blanket of white surrounding our homes.

18 “Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. 19 If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; 20 but if you refuse and rebel, you shall be eaten by the sword; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”     Isaiah 1:18–20 (ESV)

God desires a conversation with each of us.  He wants to talk to us about those things we most hate about ourselves, and those things which we don’t like about Him.  God calls out to each of us seeking to schedule a parley. Although we may not know it, each of us who has yet to accept and follow His Son as our Savior, is aligned against Him taking the side of His enemy.  Yet God still reaches His hand toward each of us, asking us to come and sit beside Him for a talk.

He wants to show us the error of our way and to convince us of the righteousness of His will.  He does not wait for us to reform our self prior to scheduling this meeting.  He simply wants to meet us as we are.  If we agree to meet Him, God will cleanse us so that we are white as snow.  If you live where it has snowed look out your window.  Have you ever seen anything so pure, so clean, so perfect as a blanket of freshly fallen snow? God wants to cleanse you so that your soul will appear to Him as clean and pure as does that freshly fallen snow.

Some of us see our own sin so clearly that we have difficulty accepting God’s offer.  Our own shame prevents us from reasoning with God about our own sinfulness.  Others have something against God.  Some believe that God has wronged them or someone they know and in anger refuse God’s offer.  We fail to realize that this position only hurts us.

I want to encourage you to take advantage of this never before occurrence and accept God’s invitation.  Let Him forgive and cleanse you.  Believe me, you will be glad you did!
