Dr. Warner Smith is the Sr. consultant of the Transformation Group church consultancy.
Prior to becoming a minister Warner was a high school chemistry/physics teacher and football coach. His twenty-five-year ministry as a Lead Pastor has taken him throughout the southeastern states including Alabama, Kentucky and Georgia.
He received his Bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama and a Master’s of Divinity degree from Beeson Divinity School of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama where he was voted the “Most Distinguished Senior” by the faculty. He earned his Ph.D. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky by completing his dissertation “An Analysis of Church Consultation in the North American Church, 1960-2003.”
Warner believes that the church should have one overriding passion; to obey Jesus Christ. While this seems obvious, too often churches allow other concerns (programs, buildings, conflict and fellowship) to place the commands of Christ on a back burner. The Transformation Group is committed to assisting local congregations properly prioritize obeying Christ’s commands.
Warner did not grow up in church, but came to faith through the persistent effort of a loving and compassionate pastor. He also believes that most people’s life stories are not yet ready for prime-time. He is committed to helping churches to create a church community where people can rewrite their personal stories, so that ultimately they can hear applause from the only audience that matters for eternity, Jesus Christ.
Warner’s wife, Pam, teaches High School math. Together they have two sons: Aaron and Joel. Aaron is married to the former Mary Catherine Tumlin. Aaron and Joel are currently students at Georgia Highlands.
