Warner Smith

Dr. Warner Smith is Lead Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Emerson, Georgia.

Prior to coming to First Baptist Church Warner was a high school chemistry/physics teacher and football coach.  His twenty-two-year ministry as a Lead Pastor has taken him throughout the southeastern states including Alabama, Kentucky and Georgia.

He received his Bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama and a Master’s of Divinity degree from Beeson Divinity School of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama where he was voted the “Most Distinguished Senior” by the faculty.  He earned his Ph.D. from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky by completing his dissertation “An Analysis of Church Consultation in the North American Church, 1960-2003.”

Warner believes that church should be a safe place for people  to ask their questions and discover their true spiritual identity.  He did not grow up in church, but came to faith through the persistent effort of a loving and compassionate pastor.  He also believes that most people’s life stories are not yet ready for prime-time.  He is committed to creating a church community at First Baptist Emerson where people can find a place of safe harbor and direction while they rewrite their personal stories, so that ultimately they can hear applause from the only audience that matters for eternity, Jesus Christ.

Warner’s wife, Pam, teaches math at Woodland High School in Cartersville, GA.  Pam received her Bachelor’s Degree from Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL and earned her Masters Degree from Kennesaw State University.  Together they have two sons:  Aaron and Joel.  Aaron is a newlywed, married to the former Mary Catherine Tumlin.  Joel is currently a student at Georgia Highlands.
